How To Make Dum Aloo In Pressure Cooker | Cooker Wale Dum Aloo Recipe At Home
Dum aloo is spicy potato based curry which is usually made by using baby potatoes. To this dish, we give dum to the potatoes in the spices just like biryani to enhance the taste. Dum is the process of slow cooking which gives all the flavours to the dish to make it delicious. In India, there are many versions of dum aloo according to the regions and their traditional way of cooking like kashmiri dum aloo, rajasthani dum aloo, Asami dum aloo, etc. In today’s generation, people want fast cooking because of their busy lifestyle. Therefore they uses cooker to give dum and for efficient cooking or to reduce the time. So lets make easy to make and delicious cooker wale dum aloo to minimize the time for cooking.
Ingredient:
– 3 Medium Size Onion (Pyaz/Kanda)
– 5 to 6 Garlic Cloves (Lehsoon)
– 1 Inch Ginger Piece (Adrak)
– 2 Medium Size Green Chilli (Hari Mirch)
– ½ Tablespoon Oil (Tel)
– 1 Tablespoon Ghee
– 2 Tablespoon Oil (Tel)
– 1 Teaspoon Cumin seeds (Sarso)
– 2 Piece Bay Leaf (Tej Patta)
– 1 Teaspoon Fennel Seeds (Saunf)
– 1 Tablespoon Red Chilli Powder (Lal Mirch Powder)
– ½ Tablespoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi Powder)
– 1 Tablespoon Coriander Powder (Dhaniya Powder)
– 7 to 8 Raw Potatoes (Aloo)
– ¾ Cup Fresh Tomato Puree (Tamatar Puree)
– Salt To Taste (Namak)
– Water As Required (Paani)
– Kasuri Methi
– Garam Masala
– Fresh Coriander Leaves (Dhaniya Patta)
Step By Step Instructions:
1. Preparation
– To make dum aloo we usually take baby potatoes, if you don’t have baby potatoes take normal potatoes and cut into size you want.
– Wash the raw potatoes with water so that dirt will be removed.
– After potato will be washed, peel all the potatoes and take it in water to prevent them to turning black.
2. Making Paste
– Take a mixture pot, add 3 medium size Onion, 5 to 6 garlic cloves, 1 inch ginger piece
2 medium size green chillies and ½ tablespoon oil.
– Make a fine paste without adding water to it and keep it aside.
– In same mixture pot, take 3 medium size fresh tomatoes and make fresh tomato puree.
3. Giving Tadka
– Take a cooker on a gas, heat 1 tablespoon desi ghee and 2 tablespoon oil in it.
– Add 1 teaspoon cumin seeds in heated oil and let it be crackled.
– After cumin seeds crackled, add 2 bay leafs and 1 teaspoon fennel seeds in it. Fennel seeds gives different aroma and flavour to the dum aloo.
4. Add Prepared Paste & Spices
– After cumin seeds and fennel seeds gets crackled, add the prepared paste of onion, green chilli, ginger, garlic in cooker and saute it for few minutes till onion roasted properly.
– Now its time to add some powdered spices in the cooker. Add 1 tablespoon red chilli powder, ½ tablespoon turmeric powder, 1 tablespoon coriander powder and roast it for few minutes.
5. Add Potatoes & Tomato Puree
– If all the masala’s get roasted, then add 7 to 8 raw and peeled potatoes in masala and saute it for some time.
– Add fresh tomato puree, salt to taste and mix it with masala properly.
– Cover cooker with lead and cook till the oil gets separated for better taste.
6. Give Dum
– After oil gets separated from masala, add water as required and mix it properly.
– Cover the cooker with whistle lid and give dum for 3 to 4 whistle till potato gets cooked completely.
7. Final Seasoning
– After giving dum, remove the lid and adjust the consistency of gravy as required.
– To enhance the taste and to give final touch to the gravy, add garam masala, kasuri methi and fresh coriander. Mix it properly and it is ready to be served.
8. Serving
– This dum aloo is best option in veg thali serving alongside with chapati, puri, rice or pulao.
– Its taste and texture makes your tummy delightful.
– The dish using above ingredient can be easily shared with 3 to 4 persons.
